Omnia 2 Available For Pre-Order On Amazon

September 3rd, 2009 No comments

Samsung I8000 Unlocked Omnia 2

The GSM version of the Omnia 2 has been available for some time now. Now Amazon is listing the unlocked international version available for pre-order. Too impatient to wait for the Omnia 2 to come to your carrier and don’t mind paying an extra $500 for the phone? Here is your opportunity. I am not sure how much the Omnia II will be with a 2 year agreement when it comes to Verizon, but it definitely won’t be $500.

Again, this is for the GSM model so you won’t be able to use this with CDMA providers like Verizon.

Here are the specs:

  • GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
  • HSDPA 900 / 1900 / 2100
  • AMOLED resistive touchscreen, 16M colors (65K effective), 480 x 800 pixels, 3.7 inches
  • microSD (TransFlash) card slot, up to 32 GB
  • Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional
  • GPS with A-GPS support, 3D map

If you really are looking to go this way you can find the Omnia 2 from other sources for a few hundred dollars less if you do some google-ing.

SuperSpeed USB 3.0 On Its Way

September 2nd, 2009 No comments

Superspeed USB 3

The standard that we have been hearing about for the last 2 years may actually be on its way to the market later this year.

As of yesterday manufacturers can have their products tested and if they receive SuperSpeed USB certification from the USB Implementers Forum they will get the new logo slapped on.

I previously talked about USB 3.0 when I got word of the new Asus P6X58 motherboard that was utilizing USB 3.0 ports. In case you are totally clueless the current standard is USB 2.0 which is rated at 480Mbps while USB 3.0 is rated at 4.8Gbps.

Nintendo Playing With Our Hearts, Black Wii Remote In Sight, Still No Console

September 2nd, 2009 No comments

Black Wii Remote

We got excited for a minute when we first got word that we would be seeing this bundle headed to the US. This holiday season will bring us a black Wiimote with motion plus bundle as well as a black nunchuck which will be sold separately. Still no word as to whether or not we are going to be getting a black model in the US. The last official word was a “you wish USA”.

Maybe once the Wii sales begin to plummet we will get to see some black in our Nintendo department.

Apple September 9 iPod Event

With all the rumors swirling around about Apple products they are we are lucky we only have 7 days left to wait.

What will we be seeing this year? Apple tablets? Apple iPods with cameras? Death to the classic iPod?(notice the headphones in the image above are plugged into the bottom of the iPod like a Touch not on top like a Classic) Will we see MMS for the iPhone in the US?

All of these questions and more answered Sept 9.

Gmail Servers Are Down, World May Very Well Be Coming To An End

September 1st, 2009 1 comment

gMail Is Down World May Very Well Be Coming To An EndNot much more to say. The Gmail servers have been down for almost 10 minutes now. The internet giant who has an endless supply of microwave corn dogs money, servers, satellites, and ideas has had a server error.

What this really means we are unsure but there are very few possibilities.

[UPDATE]: Well after over an hour of being down it looks like things are back up and running. Looks like we are all going to be ok this time.

Enslaved Mindless Robot Children – The Perfect Mall Ride For Your Kids

September 1st, 2009 3 comments

It had to happen eventually, someone has managed to create the only thing that could possibly be creepier than a robot that latches onto your hands and forces you to play the piano. This children’s ride in a mall in the Philippines lets your kids sit in a carriage and ride other kids.

The kids sit in the seat and have reins to control the mindless robot child around the pen–which seems to be a little too confusing for the boy in the video.

I am skeptical, but this may be the future of transportation. One thing I do know, when the day comes that robots begin to think for themselves and attempt to peacefully coexist with humans, one of their friends will show them this video on youtube, which will eventually lead to the destruction of the human race.

Is It Possible To Power The Entire World With Solar Panels?

September 1st, 2009 No comments

Solar Panels Required To Power WorldI wasn’t able to find any information to back this image up but if it is accurate powering the whole world with solar panels will be quite the job.

This image shows that we would need 308,762 square miles littered across the world in deserts with almost 24/7 sun all year round. The little boxes on the map don’t seem like much, but to put this into perspective Texas is 268,601 square miles. We would need to have monstrous solar panel parks providing power to our world. Alternatively commercial and residential structures could have solar panels arranged on top of them to generate energy. Start-up costs of such a project would probably be so great that none of us will ever see it in our life times, but it is still cool to think about.

Windows Mobile 6.5 Coming October 6th

September 1st, 2009 No comments

Windows Mobile 6.5 Windows Mobile 6.5 Interface

Windows Mobile 6.5 is now officially coming to us on October 6th. For more information you can read the Windows Mobile Blog. It is not a very interesting post. It is mostly just propaganda for Microsoft about how WinMo is going to be the phone OS for everyone and about how if someone is buying their first smart phone they would rather purchase a Windows phone because it is a brand they know will break down trust.

We have liked what we have seen about the mobile phone OS, but will it be as intuitive and finger friendly as we would like it to be?

This also means one of two things for Omnia 2 fans. Since the leaked info has all said that the Omnia 2 will have Windows Mobile 6.1 the phone will either come out some time in the next four weeks or it will come later and with WinMo 6.5.
